Twinstar 2 brushless power
«

Could not resist it, at Weston park show today and in Inwood models tent was a very lonely Twinstar looking for a home (not a good one mind), so while the misses was in the craft tent I snuck it in the car, she's mine ;)x hehehehehe.
Just wondered what brushless set-up people where using, have seen the Multiplex set-up and wondered if this was the set to get, looked a lot of money for a set of brushless motors and ESC's.
Any other advice on turning this into a FPV ship would also be helpful.
Cheers, Mutley

Let me get this right, you guys are running 5000mAh x2, are you tryin to circumnavigate the world lol, holly feck, that's one hell of a power pack. What kinda flight times are you getting from this (2-3weeks lol).
If you have any pic's to hand that would be great, just lookin in the box now, said to myself I was going to finish the set-up on the Zephyr first but not sure now hehehehehe
I take it you're not using the Multiplex servo's either, any good un's spring to mind???
Would this be the same motor, http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/__12921__D2830_11_1000kv_Brushless_Motor.html.
$22 for a pair of motors is a little different from the Multiplex set-up

you don't have to put that much battery in it,depends what you want from it,mine has 9300,done an easy 20k out and back using about 6400mah for 42km totaldistance if I remember
only problem with loading it up to the hilt with lipos is it stalls about 30km/h and has to be brought in hot if no wind.
them motors are what I use, great reliable smooth things..
don't skimp on servos,Hitec metal gear ones, had dozens, never had one fail yet

What were they, can you remember & do you guys run it with a flight controller?
Will start asap, these Km numbers are great, will start small and work my way up

multiplex power trains are fine but have always been extremely over priced!
I went for a single battery, the standard turnigy lipo series 5.8mAh 3S wil fit in the existing hole beneath the wing.
http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=26795
My servos are a bit marginal (perhaps) but found them adequate and reliable on similar sized foamies (and very cheap): Not recommending them, just what I chose to use!
http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=38024
D2830-11 1000kv Brushless Motors: http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=28675
These need the shaft reversing, then they fit the standard plastic cowls, (need to relieve internal cowl plastic ribs). Mounting bolt holes match the cowl and motor! 1000kv was chosen to use larger props (keep the noise down) seem to work well, I had a bag of 20 or so 8" props from the original giant shark place for peanuts, these happen to fit perfectly (nearly threw them away!)
Would advise 30A ESC's
I used these cheap ones
http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=25986
They work fine but the turnigy programmer won't recognise them so purely from that point of view I would prefer plush esc's.
Think carefully whether you want to glue the two fuselage halves or keep them separate, makes it very easy to modify and change internal wiring...

Cheers bigmouse, still wondering about servo's and should I use a flight controller with RTH feature???
Only reason I looked at the turnigy esc was they had them instock now.
To be fair I did not even think of not gluing the halfs together lol, it's not a mod I'd come across as yet, do like the idea of gluing but not sure I will hit the mark first time with my layout

Nothing wrong with a rth feature although i think the current state of the technology is that maybe they are best kept for fun and emergencies, don't think they are reliable enough to be used as a fit and forget safety feature.
Have to confess, it did save the uav once but was surprised when it actually worked in anger!
Went with the split fuselage idea because I wanted to try a few different flight controllers, each requiring a differing wiring layout!
Brod, did you need to add weight in the opposite wing?
