Discovery Yaw Gain question :)
« on: February 09, 2015, 09:12:00 PM »
I've got a Discovery with 30a Blue Seires ESCs flashed with SimonK, SunnySky 2212-13 980kv II Motors, 9x5 Props on 4S with Naza Lite hacked with V2 Firmware.

I'm having some trouble with my yaw:

When it comes to a stop from Yawing it wobbles all over the place, in a diagonal motion and can't seem to get it sorted.

Does anyone else use the same motors and have some gains I could try or point me in the right direction? This is my first time using a Naza myself and just used to Naze32 which I found fine tuning :)

Would be much easier if it was PIDs as I have a better understanding after so many Naze32 setups and different motors.

I'll keep having a play with the gains until I get it where I want it - had a good old google and can't find any with the motors I'm using that have worked well enough.

Better off with naze, apm etc!

Problem is with close source is that you only get what they are prepared to give you!
Had it been open source apm for instance you would have a log file to analyse the problem. With close source commercial FC's your only hope is to start guessing what to do, and that is only if their gui allows you to do it!

Strange, I've never had an issue like that. If it wobbles after yaw it sounds more like a motor response issue which could be a motor or an ESC.

Does it do it the same yawing in both directions?

Yeah it does the same in both directions when yawing. It's really weird and can't make much sense of it. Will keep on playing around with gains and see if I get anywhere.

You could also check that every motors center line is perfectly vertical and the C of G is at least close. Last thing I can recommend is that the GPS puck is orientated correctly,.

Motors seem pretty perfect and check with a piece of string during build as was quite concious of that. The CoG - it's a little tail heavy with the 4S to be fair - but read many people have the same issue but not having the yaw issue. Upping the gain has improved it somewhat so I will continue to play.

The GPS pluck is correctly orientated as far as I know. It is in the centre and only used vertical offset so it read correct height on the OSD.

Some posts I've read people having same issue and put it down to the frame and trapezoid motor alignment but last year I had built one with full TBS kit and used Gains from the IVC wiki as posted above and it flew like a dream! Wasn't mine, but I built and set it up for someone else.. Which is why I'm quite baffled with this one.

Still early days though :) Not time to scrap the FC for a Naze just yet.. Or Vector :)

I'll try the Naza dance another time, too, to see if that will make any difference :/

Yeah mine is slightly tail heavy (~10mm rear) running 4s 5000mAh but also have 3axis gimbal on the front.

I'm outta ideas.
