Yes they are all officially rated for 3S I think! (kiss might be 4S), we don't run them flat out all the time, just in bursts, don't think the brain could keep up! the DYs motors are ok on 4S, the RCX 12A esc's are ok on 4S with 5" props, probably close on the upper current limit, Don't think the 12a esc's will survive the 6" props on 4S, Suppose If I did it again I might go for kiss 18a and any motor, kinda happy with the dys though, they are cheap and quite well made, and the leads are good quality and long enough to avoid soldered
joints!
The 3S minis are lacking power as most have ended up over 500grams once fpv and camera is added, which made them sluggish! Ok for LOS though, I thought the mini hexa style would be good route to go on 3S, with the added power of the extra two motors. Fine, fast, can lift 2200 nanotech 3S with ease, but the layout makes it difficult to plan the fpv install.

This is a very short clip of the 3S mini hexa climbout!

Just a shame that the configuration makes it difficult to easily add fpv!
Hence my move to 4S in future

Mini quad, 4 X DYS BE1806 motors, RCX 12A ESC's
3S - 5X3 props:
voltage 12.4 no load dropping to 11.92 at full throttle
Current 0 at no load increasing to 21 at full throttle
= 21/4 = 5.25 amps per ESC at full throttle
4S - 5X3 props:
voltage 16.72 no load dropping to 15.5 at full throttle
Current 0 at no load increasing to 43 at full throttle
= 43/4 = 10.75 amps per ESC at full throttle
3S - 6X4.5 props:
voltage 12.54 no load dropping to 10.55 at full throttle
Current 0 at no load increasing to 31 at full throttle
= 31/4 = 7.75 amps per ESC at full throttle
Didn't try 4S 6X4.5 props, it would have been about 15.9 amps which is way over the 12a ESC rating!
18A ESC's should be fine though...

My thoughts is that the motors will probably survive so long as they don't get stalled under power, or start cogging! Their rotation provides excellent cooling!
The 6 X 4.5's even with 3S seemed to be putting out a lot of thrust!
OK will do another test with a spare 30a ESC, see if the motor survives!

Only looking for safe full throttle bursts really. Think the motors would be fairly robust for that treatment, but the ESC is likely to just go pop if overloaded too much, even for an instant.

This build seems to get more complex by the minute! Every little tweak to get the esc's neatly between the bottom plates, seem to throw up more alterations! Like a chain reaction!
All these mods are just making the build fiddly and even worse, will make it harder to repair or replace parts in the future! And all just to get those ESC's between the plates

Not happy, will rip it apart and build it with the ESC's on the arms as I did with the last one, everything is easy to get at on this one!

You not thought of getting a PDB middle plate BM?
Ive got one on order and it should tidy the wires up and make it a lot easier to mount the ESC between the plates. ALso has regs so can run 4s easily.

Yes it looks good but couldn't find any pictures of it with esc's attached! The 12a ESC's are a bit larger than the old 10a ones, it's a monkey puzzle to get them to fit neat!

I don't think anyone has one yet, but once they arrive in a week or two id expect to see plenty of pics for comparison.

I'm just contemplating plush 18a flashed with blHeli, they are 4S capable, 10mm longer, 2mm wider, 2mm thicker than the rcx 12a So defo need to fit on the arm, makes the build easier (and I have some here). Ok then to go with 2208's on 4S with 6X4.5 props

Sounds good to me, I do like having them on the arms for ease of repairs/replacements.
