Yea that angle is right on the limit I think, after 45 deg from vertical it can go wrong in a minute.

Looks good  Ben! you have inspired me to print a 1/3 scale head (same as the one I had the failure on!)

I agree with martin, firmware is 99% of a successful 3d printer, that's the good thing about open source, you can experiment or tweak the code to suit your own needs.

Decided to rerun that head but at 1/4 scale, 5 hours, turned out fine this time!

Head is 57mm high, could have gone larger but still in testing mode!

Couldn't release it from the table, had to soak the table in hotish water to melt the glue.

Infill 25% weight 30 gram

you might try changing bottom and top layer height to something smaller... anywhere between .2 and .5 would be a little bit better, also, if you can adjust your first layer settings, I would definitely take the speed down to the slowest possible setting 20-30mm/s atleast for the first layer. And while the overhangs seem to have come out very well at 50mm/s if you can adjust the speed for those layers or just height in general I definitely would slow it down to be safe and make it more reliable. Also you did not list you print heads travel speed but the default for most printers is usually a lot faster than the print speed and I would make the travel speed much lower to get less material drag in general.

For the head I used:
Bottom layer speed 20 mm/s
Print speed 50 mm/s
Travel speed 150 mm/s

I'll try thinner top and bottom, actually the very top of the head was finished in a spiral type motion and it was raised slightly, guess a thinner setting would have worked well there?
