Always fancied a wing and after seeing some at rebound 2014 I couldn't resist when the teksumo came back into stock at hobby king UK.  All in it came to £60 for everything except RX.

I went for the 1450kv motor with a 7x5 prop cos quite a few people fly with it and it seems to be a good balance between flight time and speed I also have 8x4 and 8x6 props to try.
I never think about taking pictures as I build so I will add pics of it built to show what I did
I glued the Wing halves with gorilla glue then cut the battery bay and equipment bay all the way through as I planned to put a 2200mah battery and a mini APM in it so needed plenty of room, I  glued 2 lengths of 2mm carbon rod into the leading edge right at the nose then put fibre tape over the entire leading edge with duct tape on top for extra strength. It was hard trying to get anything to stick to the foam so I sprayed it with some spray adhesive first let it go tacky then stuck the tape on.

For the floor of the bays I cut a piece of 3mm correx and gorilla glued it to bottom of the wing right up to the nose, this has added more strength and rigidity to the nose which is needed because when you have enlarged the battery bay to fit a 2200mah there is not much left at the nose, it also makes a nice landing skid plate. I gorilla glued the motor mount on and hot glued the winglets on.
The equipment bay hatch is also made of correx attached with velcro for now, Im going to make a flush fitting hatch but need to see how much room I need for the apm first.

Maiden flight went ok  ::)  between my dodgy flying (never flown a plane of any kind before ) and xpitt's legendary lawn dart launches the Teksumo took a few hits before it flew properly, it took us 2 failed launches to work out the ailerons were wrong way round  :P

Once that was sorted it flew but it was very windy and in my wisdom i had decided that the recommended throws looked too small so had way too much movement on the controls so it was a real handful to fly. After a couple of flights I gave up and flew quads instead.

I reduced the throws gave it a bit more reflex and went out on a less windy evening and it flew mint  once I got used to flying with constant throttle instead of lots of throttle changes like when flying a quad, I didnt even trim it it flew nice and level as it was. I also nailed the frisbee launch after a couple of tries. It floated around nice and slow at bout 1/3rd throttle and went rapid when I gave it some, I have not enjoyed LOS flying that much for a good while  ;D

After a failed launch attempt that went in nose first quite heavy I noticed there was a small tear in the left side of the wing from the motor mount to just before the main bay  Probably a culmination of a few big crashes, there was no way I was going home now it was flying nice so I carried on flying and it didn't seem to affect it at all. When I got home I filled the tear with gorilla glue and stuck it back together, you can see the line where the glue has bubbled out on the pics. It seems solid now again.

You can also see on the pic of the bottom of the wing a crease in the correx just above the velcro strap this is from a big crash on the maiden when it flew into concrete at speed and bounced back up in the air, glad I did all the reinforcing cos i  think the nose would have snapped if I hadn't, it looks like the nose bent right down and just sprung back  :o

Next I put the fpv gear on, I am using a c1333 fpv camera ( survielzones version of PZ0420 ) and a fox 400 1.2Ghz vtx with homemade cloverleaf antenna. I just drew round the things were I wanted them to go  then cut out the foam and melted the base of the holes nice and flat with a soldering iron, then I put velcro into the holes and to the fpv gear so they are nice and secure but easy to remove if needed.
I put the camera to the side because I didn't want it to get smashed on the first nose in crash and also I didn't want to take anymore foam from round the nose as it is the weak point already. I would have preferred the view from the camera being right on the nose as I can see a little bit of the battery and wing in the right corner of the picture as it is now but its not that much and it might be a good thing because it will remind me I'm flying a wing and not a quad.

As soon as the weather is better I will maiden it fpv and see how I get on. I also have a mini apm with gps/compass, current sensor and minim osd on the way from rctimer to put on this so will remember to take pics while I'm actually doing that this time  ::)

Cheers,  I'm using 3s 2200mah batteries they seem to balance it pretty good and a diy LC filter coming off esc power wires feeding the cam and vtx.

Lol I'll just pretend the first vids I post is the maiden will make me look a better pilot.
This motor is a pretty mild one  and I thought it was pretty quick, lots fly it with a 2826 2200 kV and 6x4 prop and it goes really quick but less flight time, motors are only bout £7 so I'll try a few I think see what's best.

Just watch out for torque roll as you fit motors/props with more ooomph, don't launch full throttle

yeah it seems to have enough power for now anyway don't want it too wild just yet until I get used to it, might try some 8x4 and 8x6 props for bit more flight time.
I glided in quite close to the ground then nailed the throttle and it rolled left quite a bit dont know if this was torque roll or it was a bit off balance though.

Probably torque roll
I put a 7x5 prop and 4S on my Stryker and very nearly lost it in the sea due to the unexpected roll, I think I let a little bit of poo out

your gonna get more torque on a bigger prop, I always fly this size plank on a 6x4 although I never really went for an efficient setup with any of mine (40" ritewing, skyfun, funjet, 1m slipstream)

Maybe 2S and a bigger folding prop ?
