get your wallets ready folks there coming

DominatorHD release date set for Sept 2013

Schedule has been updated due longer than expected lens prototypes. Now I'm looking at the following:
Glass lens production (time for 1st delivery): 2.5 months
 Lens holder prototype: 1 week
New Dominator tooling: 8 weeks (include lens holder prototyping).
PCB production is short so not affect schedule.
Not much change to Dominator shape or existing module boards.

So I'll have all the materials for production in about 2.5 months. 2 weeks for pilot build. Looking at a 3 month release which puts it at an Early September release.
All the designs are firm now so this date won't change.

There will not be an HDMI input for this version. Too many variables with prototyping a VGA/analog driver board which could throw off the release date

This has been a moving target for quite a while now.

I've no intention of rushing to buy a pair as my std doms still have plenty of use in them.

Hmmmm
No headtracking as standard, no IPD adjustment, no diversity

Maybe they'll come into their own when there are HD downlinks widely available with good range

Ok so the new Dominator HD’s are not going to offer the ability to display full-resolution 720p or 1080p HD footage but the step up from VGA (640×480) to SVGA (800×600) is a relatively big step and it WILL be very noticeable! In simple terms you’ll be seeing over 170 thousand extra pixels (A 36% increase in detail) which combined with the wider field-of-view equates to a far more immersive experience.

Interestingly enough HD video is considered to be anything with more than 480 horizontal lines (in the US) or more than 576 horizontal lines (in Europe) so “technically” the new goggles are even displaying video that could be classed as “HD”.

quoted from wikipedia, but then it contradicts itself further down saying its defined as
Quote
High-definition television (HDTV) resolution is 1,080 or 720 lines

I think it's safe to say in the year 2014 that HD is 720p at the bare minimum.... but hey... not that it actually matters, you're 100% right when you say they will be much more detailed and immersive than anything currently on the market.... shame that the video transmissions are still only SD, regardless of how many TVL the camera is.

hmmm, thinking about it... I guess FatShark could get away with the name if they say the HD stands for Higher Definition lol
