5v question
« on: May 22, 2012, 12:56:10 PM »
what a result, my magic smoke yesterday didnt kill my camera nor vtx, woohoo

but it did melt the wiring, which needs replacing now

I would prefer to run my fatshark 5.8 vtx on 5v to keep the heat down, last time I used 2s power from the balance plug, but a recent experiment made me realise I could get 5v power from the rx

is this a good idea or not? Im assuming that all that happens with any extra voltage you put through the vtx is just turned into heat, so the more power you put into it the hotter the unit gets.
however, is there any difference in signal strength or quality on different voltages
and am I going to pick up rf interfearance by using the rx for power?

my camera still needs 12v so  this will run directly from the 3s lipo

thoughts?

try a standalone BEC, it gives regulated power
like this:

it's the exact one I use :)
