OpenLRS Questions
« on: April 13, 2012, 11:30:15 PM »
I'm going openLRS    8)

But I have a Mac so will I be able to flash the hardware with new firmware to get 459mhz ??

plus whats the best Atennas to get for the tranny and receiver

plus another boring question... I have a 12FG will there be away to use it with the 12FG ??

or should I just pick up a 2nd hand 9cap and make it UHF permanently ??

Arduino runs on pretty much every platform out there you will have no problems at all with using a mac to flash your firmware

459MHz isnt advised right now, some people have had range issues and until its decided whether its a hardware limitation or software glitch its best to fly at 435Mhz ok its not legal but its 'out of the way' of other stuff so you wont get in the way

The antennas quoted by Chris are good.   I have the SRH-771 its an excellent 433MHz antenna and will recieve 459 ok but its not designed to transmit 459. (that info is from the diamond website)

The Rx antenna is excellent if you have a large wing to mount it on otherwise google the sanders style di-pole antenna which is also very good but takes up less space and is practical across more different planes

Waddup :)

Papa is spot on reagarding antennas. Get the diamond for the tx and a dipole on your rx. think that works best. Also flash the olrs on the 433 band as the 459 band has a 6db drop making it pretty much useless.

You can connect the module through you trainer port as it only needs PPMin VCC and GND. If you want to have a separate tx, a ff9 is probably the best choice (I've got one myself and it's perfect)

Arduino IDE is aveilable for all platforms (cross compatible) so there shouldn't be any issues with firmware upgrades. http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

Hope I didn't miss anything lol

Mihai.
