chain link interference causing massive range issues
« on: March 22, 2012, 09:23:42 AM »
Hi all :) have been flying with a cl system installed,  out of sight range on low power is not a problem
However when i fire up the vtx my range drops to 300metres or less then lock outs begin. going to high gets me another few hundred yards but i still get lockouts

I have tried all the normal things that i have seen and done to prevent this happening, my micro range checks all seem fine btw with or with out vtx switched on

I am going to make a seperate header to power all my servo,s etc and keep the power wires and supplies to the servo,s as far away from the cl,rx as possible , and supply the cl rx with cleaned up power only ie just the basic supply and only run the signal wires to the rx through a ferrite ring one to each signal wire.
Has anyone had similer issues and did you get over it??

Hiya,

I've read (not had chance to test my CL system yet) that VTX camera's cause a large amount of interference and shared power also is a prime cause of interference.

Not sure if you've included the above in your "usual stuff" checking, but if not, might be worth a go.  Other than that, get someone to help test by getting a fair distance out (or in range test mode) and start plugging other bits of kit (ie OSD, GPS unit, VTX and finally camera) to see if one in particular suddenly causes your range issues.  Is this in your easystar you mention?  I'm going to be using the exact same air-frame for my chainlink, so am quite interested in your findings.

Mark may have better ideas when he's about, as I bought my system off him.
Cheers

Thanks Balders ill give that a go i,m swopping out to a wdr600 before the week end instead of the kx161 so i will keep you informed

I am also thinking of shortening the antenna coax a little to bring the cl rx further back down towards the tailboom a little

The power is not shared though i use a seperate 1200 lipo for vtx etc

thanks for the thoughts  :)  saltyfpv

would really like to see a photo of your CL antenna setup/routing if you wouldn't mind.

You can host photo's natively on here without have to use a 3rd party hosting site incidentally.

Nice one. If I get some time Im going to test my easystar with the UHF gear in and maybe the fpv gear.

balders my antenna is on the tail finn cl rx is just below the motor mount in the belly with lipo up front, i would do some runs (with out) vtx on just to confirm alls well before going fpv with her :)
