Pixhawk on quadcopter
« on: March 22, 2015, 11:15:21 AM »
Ok so I have done the fw update, calibrated the sensors & the rx, assigned some switches (will need to revist those later)

However Im not getting my motors spinning when I arm and apply throttle, escs keep beeping away as if they dont see any signal from the pixhawk.

Probably missing something simple .. :D

Plug it into Mission Planner and switch to the Flight Data screen
Try to arm it and see what it says on the info panel

Where the GPS 3D text is you will see other info including why it won't arm

Hmmmm, I'd try wiping the board with a complete reset then reload the firmware using Mission Planner

Use the CLI Setup and Reset commands to clear all parameters before reloading firmware

Yea NAN is returned when the result of an operation is undefined. In other words not a number, sounds like you have some initialisings not done or done wrong, I'd agree with tecnic, Suspect that you updatd FW using QGroundControl! Use MP and do a full re install. Config the tx etc, mode switch settiings, Then arm while connected to mp, look at the pre-start checks (will only show if there is a problem)

Just a check: is the memory card plugged in? Buzzer, and Arm button connected? GPS and compass connected?

Right well I have reflashed it and Im not getting the errors now, however Im not sure the gps is being seen as when by the window Im not getting anything. Im going to put MP on the laptop and try in the garden.  When the GPS arrived it came with a 5 pin plug for the GPS side with 4 wires in and a 6 pin plug to move the pins into so I just moved everything over in the same order except with a gap of 2 between green and black instead of a gap of one! (see image)

And yes buzzer and button are attached too!  :)

yes two gaps is right!

Did you also swap leads on the compass (i2c connector) ?

If so you look like you've got the leads wrong, but need to confirm first!

Re above, if the wires are wrong (as I suspect) then it probably won't find the gps so it won't enable it! Or the compass for that matter.

Right this thing is in the garden right now and HDOP is about 2.0 at the moment, better than 99.99 :)

I havent touched the compass leads!

yep back on window now with hdop 99.99 although I have got GPS lock before on several different OSDs in same position so maybe the GPS is crap ;)

Got all ticks on all wizard checks now although I aint tested it with motors plugged in yet to see if they spin.

Good that it all works, just to clarify what I was on about, the white and yell lead on yours is opposite on mine, but didn't want you to randomly swapped it over without making some checks first!

All re-assembled and I just spun the motors up for the first time so it  looks like its ready for a test hover tomorrow, then I will add the FPV gear!

Ok I moved house since the last post here, so yesterday I finally stuck some props on and tried a test hover but the thing span round 360deg on yaw axis when its feet came off the floor. Im wondering if I need to disable the internal compass or something.

I think it should auto detect the external compass (If memory serves me right) but you can check it in MP.  Make sure the compass is not 180 deg out in MP or it wiill try to flip. The default pids on FW 3.2 I found was very soft, more or less had to double them! Haven't had any yaw issues since the very early FW.
