Thoughts on DJI FCs?
« on: January 29, 2015, 05:43:11 AM »
Planning on moving up to a GPS, what do you reccommend? And, if you've used them before, how are the Naza M V2 and the Naza Lite? Leaning towards one of those, (probably Lite) right now but wanted to get some outside opinions.

I wouldn't put one in a fpv craft however I did stick one in an AP multi only so u can use rth if needed and also for when I want it to just sit in the sky with no inputs

Agree with mrBen, there is a subtle difference between the two! For general fpv flying you need an fpv machine! For pictures or video platform you want something more stable to poodle around the sky, Both can be accomplished by the same machine but it will be a compromise!

Think you can sub-divide that, How much tinkering are you prepared to accept?
Open source FC's need tinkering but offer far more capability than closed source FC's and are a fraction of the price.
If you can't, or don't want to tinker then pay through the nose with whatever commercial FC that catches your eye!

My top three FC's are:

Full house-APM (with gps, rtl etc~UAV and camera work, can install FPV and go for the ride using goggles or Screen)

Naze32 (has good self leveling to get out of trouble, and gyro only mode for realistic fpv, using goggles (don't like a screen in this mode), wouldn't bother with the partial gps capability on this one )

KK2: ( kind of fun-fly LOS, or fpv, no gps, Goggles would be my choice again)

Main point: All the above is open source!

I used copter control on first fpv multis , and this was good but poor auto level ect and could be flaky at times , then went to apm that was great but had some compass issues at the time for me , so I got a naza m v1 there gr8 hour of the box at first when you see how stable they hover but once you get over that you will soon outgrow it skill wise, they don't fly nice if you want to feel like your realy in control and as few have gone on id say they have not got any better dji controllers.   Are best at hovering that's it , you will have much more fun with as bm says apm or naze32

There's clean flight for naze that is implementing much better gps code at this time so position hold will improve I'm sure

I started with the Naza Lite in a Phantom 1, was really impressed with it, if things look bad (and they sometimes do) just flip it into GPS and itll hover happily waiting for your input, once confident in GPS mode swith to ATTI mode, this has self levelling but no GPS so it quite smooth to fly/film with, for stunts etc go into Manual mode.

Only flown a little with Naze32 in my ZMR250, i got this for a more hands on flying style and the speed (4s), dont think ill look as good as the other guys stunting them but im lovin it for its thrill :)

Thanks, I think I'll go with the Naza Lite, sounds like it flies as well as M V2, and I won't be flying it on large enough of a quad to use waypoints and spend the time controlling the camera... Maybe someday!

I have a solid FPV machine setup (Hyperlite 275, fatshark 600tvl cmos, etc) that I like for FPV, but I want to use my GoPro for good quality filming so I'm going to get Naza Lite and alexmos. Combo costs me around same amount as Naza M V2, but is for full gimbal setup and has great reviews all around.

You should expect your flight time to reduce adding a Gimbal, i went from 11mins to 6mins on a Phantom 1 with a 2900 3S.

Theres also a program that can update Naza Lite to V2, theres a post here somewhere, i havent bothered as im happy with the Lite.
