Loss of power but batteries are full.... ?
«

Hello all again.... My dad eventually moved away from arducopter as that was doing mine and his head in, so many issues it was driving me mad.
Anyway we got the naza lite and it's been easy to use and setup I feel, whether I've set it up correct is a different matter :0)
Our issue is now we are losing power maybe a minute into flight and after about two minutes the quad is unable to Hover, just not enough power.
We check his batteries and they have hardly lost any voltage so I'm mind boggled to what's going on.
Im not sure if the batteries are powerful enough or if it's something completely else
Also with the naza thing onboard the quad the light flashes fast orange when you pump the throttle in flight but blinks normal green while hovering... Maybe this helps you help me... ?
I'm just left scratching my head and want to help him but I've always like RTF stuff and he loves building things but gets down when I walk away unable to solve his problems.
I'm not sure if it's the correct battery output so we need then to buy a more powerful battery or I need to set something up for him in the naza program on the PC.
I have not a clue with what effects what and why so it's like teaching a pig to herd sheep when it comes to this stuff.
His quad weighs 1 Kg without the battery and here are a couple of pics of the motor and battery.
Many thanks if you can help.

Can't help with your latest choice of flight controller.
Is the battery old? could becoming high internal resistance with age! so monitoring for voltage drop when under power would indicated any problems, if the voltage is not dropping then it would be the controller, presumably either it's settings or configuration

The battery is new ish, about three months old and he has three that are the same... The quad does the same with all batteries.

sounds like it could be the low voltage safety thing, you either need to set it up correct or just disable it, disable is best

It's not really vital to do battery monitoring on a 3S quad weighing about 1.5kg flying weight, it will most probably settle down and land itself before the battery voltage drops too far into the danger zone!

He's using a DX9.... I'm not round my dad's at the moment but I'm sure in the naza software I disabled the voltage thing as I said to me dad we will hover then monitor the battery.
When and how do I set up the GPS dance thing... ?
Sorry for being so simple when it comes to these questions but i really am a fish out of water when it comes to setting up drones.
He is also using optic esc's if that helps.
Is that a powerful enough battery in the pics ?
I think I see that phantoms use batteries with nearly double the MAH's of his one.

You calibrate like this Ziggy ...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxMjTjywbYc
The light going orange and then green is normal, usually under load itll give the odd red flash, when its doing a lot its time to land, you should get around 7mins flight on that size battery i would have thought.

I ain't setup manual mode but will do now if I can work that one out.
Think I set up failsafe gps and att I think.
But that is helpful and thank you cobs on how to calibrate the GPS.
Wonder if that will sort my problem.
Also I hear about cutting a wire off, will look into that also.
Thick a cow dung when it comes to drone tech.

I use Manual / ATTI / GPS modes, the failsafe is set to return and land (if it goes out of range or you turn tx off itll come back and land where it took off from).
Youll get there mate, you got a pic of his quad?

I still need more work to do after I find out this problem, I turned off the radio while the drone had no props on it and it just cut off :0)... So I think I need to sort that out.
I'm going back up there in a few hours so I will take a pic then and post ok.
Thank you all for helping and your suggestions

Look at vids on Youtube Ziggy, loads of help there for setting up Naza mate
Dont think it would have had a GPS lock indoors so it probs would shut down, outdoors with Naza when you switch quad on wait until you see 20 green rapid flashes - thats it got its GPS Home Lock, dont fly/take off until you have that or it could just do a flyaway.

It does sound like low voltage kicking in that, should fly fine with that battery, has it been left charged for a while ? Do you have something else you can try the battery on to check it ? I never had naza so not much help with that side of it hope you get it sorted though.

Thank you all for your replays, very much appreciated.
I look on YouTube and there was someone setting up the voltages in the naza software and that seems to have sorted the issue.
Now we have hover times of about 7 minutes and the light starts flashing then it lands on it's own what is cool.
We set up the GPS with the method mentioned above and now the heading hold works what is great for my dad.
Really is a stable machine and I feel it's more stable than his cheerson cx 20.
Will post a pic when I know how as it's been disabled via tap talk in this forum.
Thank you all.

Great news Ziggy, bet the old mans happy now
Theres also a thread here on how to update your Naza Lite to Naza V2 but only jump in if its what you want, do some research first.
7 mins is probs normal for that battery in cold conditions, in the summer i get 11mins from a 2900Mah battery, think you maybe need some larger capacity batteries now - maybe 5000Mah if it has room/lift capability, guess we wont know until the pix arrive
