Beginner Stick Scalings?
« on: January 05, 2015, 03:55:15 AM »
Both my setups are looking good, and I am ready to start practicing flying them. What stick scalings would you reccomend for a beginner. I am looking for something that isnt super jumpy elevator and aileron wise, but also allows me to have accurate control of throttle. I don't totally get the logic behind the scalings so I though I'd ask here for what people started out on. Also, I am using KKboards but I'm guessing you would reccomend starting out without self lvl?

Good thing about kk2 is you can change settings anywhere so just start on stock and just keep up pi get it be a small amount each time until your happy. Can't remember now what I use to fly on. But 76 is ringing a bell. Don't start on that though

First of all make sure your tx has no mixing, no rates, all trims neutral (throttle trim can be low as possible) then don't ever change these settings!

These are near default and works fine for a small (mini sized) quad. You will see slight high speed oscillations while hovering especially in wind but its safe settings for beginners and the quad will fly well!

Fly in self leveling mode until you feel really comfortable flying away, towards yourself, circuits, figure of eight, both directions! LOS of course! Being able to fly LOS will save you quad many times over in the future!

Later try acro! In this mode the accelerometers are turned off, now it will fly more like an aeroplane but the P & I gains will need tuning to your frame, no need to alter the self leveling parameters for this!

Larger frames need quite different settings, more experimentation needed!

Don't make the mistake that ultra low settings are cool! You will crash! They need to suit your frame, acro settings tuned for neutral flying, the quad sits better in the air, it flies better on fpv. But that can all come with time!

Oh yes you will crash a lot, use cheap props!

Typical mini quad learning settings:

p gain 120
p limit 50
i gain 40
i limit 20
Link roll pitch = yes

stick scaling:
roll 20
pitch 20
yaw 50
throttle 90
minimum throttle 10
height dampening 0
height D limit 30
servo filter 50

self level settings:
p gain 40
p limit 20
acc trim roll 0
acc trim pitch 0

mixer settings:
throttle 100
aileron 71
rudder 100
offset 0
type: =esc rate:= high
