Using different motors/ESCs at the same time?
« on: January 01, 2015, 09:52:06 AM »
I'm considering in the future making an octocopter for arial photography with some of my 2300kv motors. Since I have some different ones and different 12A ESCs could I use any of them together? Could I pair 4 Hovership 2300kv motors with 4 Sunsky 2300kv motors and 4 Hovership 12A ESCs with 4 other 12A ESCs? If this does not work how come?

The controller should in theory compensate for the differences, but I certainly wouldn't do that out of choice, think you might end up with asymmetric yaw if the odd motors have a different power curve than the even ones.

like bm says your flight controller should make up for it, but your giving it extra work to do just to keep level, but if you spaced them out so there was 2 of each motor spinning the same way and spaced them out alternatively so its not all one brand on the left and the other on the right. but still i wouldn't want to try it

Logan, not tried it on an octo but works ok on tri's and quad's, even tried a tricopter with various prop size's i.e 9" front right 8" front left and just for a laugh a one bladed prop on the yaw... no problems. in fact I've no idea what make or amp's the esc's on my tri  are but they've been on it for over 3 years and are still going strong.
                         cheers Tony

I wouldn't recommend this since they never spin up with the same speed. On my X8 configuration I just tried other esc but the thing was unflyable after this mod. So replaced them for the same types and everything was ok again.
