Hyperlite 275 won't fly :(
« on: December 31, 2014, 09:23:39 PM »
So I just setup my Hyperlite 275 to fly, and its having major issues. For some reason the back 2 motors are way over powered, and it just wants to flip forward. I swapped some things around and made the motor and fc set up identical to my first quad, and it still wants to flip! Any ideas?

sounds like its not setup properly, perhaps motor layout? motors spinning wrong way? wrong props on?

So one of my propellers was the wrong way, which I realized a bit after posting and fixed. However now it flips to the right each time, and I have busted 4 CF props due to this :(. My flight controller and motors are oriented incorrectly, however this is on purpose as I am trying to set it up exactly as my last one, to make the switching on the radio easier and because I am having so much trouble. The controller(kk215) is backwards, and so are the motors, however this was not a flight problem on my last one as I used someone else's settings and they had their stuff oriented that way. So it is oriented with the motors in the proper places for the board, which is backwards, so M4 is the front left of the actual quad. So motors should be in right places for my set up, propellers and motors are going the correct directions, and I am using settings used by multiple other people. Since this all seems correct to me, what else could be causing the problem?

that doesn't make sense to me, he most of set a custom flight mode into the flight controller, you can do that on kk2 have motors anywhere you want but you need to tell it by setting up a custom motor lay out, just point kk2 the right direction see if it works?

I havent flashed it with a new software yet... But my first one flew fine without being flashed and with this orientation. I am worried wieght could be an issue though... With  2300kv motors on 3S with a GoPro, FPV setup and battery it weighs around 750g compared to my other which weighs around 630 all set up... Also on my last setup I was using 6x4.5 props and now I'm using 5x3 props on this one, as it cannot fit 6 in props... So I'm wondering if weight is what is causing for such a late start of upward-ish motion when throttling up, but still doesnt explain the flipping to the right. My ESCs are calibrated and I know its not due to them because it is consistently right, not just random flips. Not sure why this is happening as my quad seems to be balanced.

are you 100% sure the motors are plugged into the flight controller in the correct order?

Use cheap gemfan props, just no point in wasting money on CF props at that size!

As xxpitt says, if it doesn't work as expected then simplify the installation to a point where it works as expected, or you discover the problem!

I never experimented much with the kk2 but at a guess, if the board is mounted backwards, and you've changed the motors to compensate, how have you managed to reverse the sensing direction of the gyros and acceleromters

700 grams is an awful lot of weight for 4 tiddly motors, and a gopro is way over the top (weight wise) for a mini quad!

I would strip off excess weight until it at least flies! Use small batteries like 1300 mAh to keep the weight down. appx flying weight for a mini quad is 500~600 grams, no higher! I couldn't even loop my big tricopter when the gopro was mounted, and that had 10" props!

Swap your motors and board around to what is standard for the kk2, get it hovering (that will prove that its all working) then experiment!

As a quick test to check gyros etc, hold the mini in your hand and give it about 1/4 throttle.

apply a bit of pitch forward/ back, roll left/right, you will be able to see if the quad is responding in the right sense to the tx controls.
If that's ok then leave the tx controls alone, apart from setting 1/4 throttle, then tilt the quad forward, back, left, right The quad should resist your movements! (lowest motors speeding up) if it tries to increase your movements then the gyros are sensing the wrong way...
