Need a Naze32 expert.
« on: December 26, 2014, 08:29:19 PM »
I am using a naze32 will Barro etc on my Lumenier QAV250. With a Pitch or Roll input it looses altitude. This means that in forward flight it is very difficult the hold a constant altitude.
At the other end of the spectrum is my TBS Disco with a Naza V2 that hold its altitude very well whatever you do, even in full fast forward flight you can yank the stick back and with no change in throttle and it holds its altitude, even at a mtr of the ground!
With the Naze32 though, even in Barro mode it it very difficult to maintain altitude making fast low level flight almost impossible.
I have not touched any of the PID setting as I am not sure if it will help?
Any help welcome.

Hi I have only used the naze acro not the full with baro etc but on multiwii FC's and a crius aiop v2 you had to cover the baro with foam  or the altitude hold just didn't work. The foam stops the baro being affected by wind and direct light which confuses it.  Pretty sure this will make a big difference to how well it holds altitude on the full naze.

I know what your saying I had naza for a while , the baro implementation on naze is not as good , well I say this I just fly acro now , it can be tuned but cos so many people fly acro it might be hard to find settings for naze in full mode , but im sure you will there are many qav250 out there might be worth asking on Lumenier forum , or person who has naze locked in most in this way is prolly JAB1a on here

eg.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nCgVKHLtCM

a spanky that he flys is pretty close to a qav msg him for his settings

if your still find thing bad eather stick with naza or practice

naze gives much better flying experience unless you just like hovering

hope this helps

edit :you will need some open cell foam over baro sensor though or it will not behave atall

I already have the barro covered with foam and that makes a massive difference in barro mode. But my main problem is with all other modes, it looses and gains height with roll and pitch inputs. So if I am in fast flight at low level around trees like FPV racing it is very difficult to keep a constant height in Angle or Horizon modes. It is almost like the throttle is being raised/lowered by the roll/pitch inputs.

yes sounds like aggressive pids! Any roll or pitch input causes a rapid rpm increase (to create the turn etc) if the increase is too much then it will climb, probably then fall as soon as you straighten up again!

Try reducing, starting with the p term, stock pids are a bit high, meant for lolling around casually in no wind conditions!

If your racing I presume you can handle the controls ok, probably flying in acro would suit you better but the pids must be fairly well tuned to do this comfortably.

Thanks, what you described sounds spot on. I will start by reducing the P for roll and pitch and see how it goes.

I have flashed mine with Cleanflight as well now. I will try the autotune tomorrow to see if that sorts my height issues out.
I found cleanflight super easy to set up, took about five mins in total including flashing. And that's good for me as computers scare the crap out of me!

autotune was a complete waste of time to me, crashed it 3 times whilst trying to tune it and PIDS were way way too high from autotune!
