RP SMA vs SMA
« on: December 20, 2014, 06:40:08 PM »
Hi, could someone please explain the difference between RP SMA and SMA and right vs lefthand polarization, I've just come across them and am a bit confused. Thanks

Rp SMA just means the pin in the center of SMA is other way around so on normal SMA the pin is on antenna side the hole for the pin is on the rx  or tx side so if you buy a antenna that's rpsma and try use it on a  vrx that has standard SMA.  They will screw together fine but neither will have a pin so the will be no signal being passed through the antenna. Mr.Ben came up with a good idea of just sticking a pin in one of the holes. However if you get it the other way around so both side has the pin you won't  be able to do much about it.

Edit

Actually I should point out on standard SMA the pin is on the SMA that is threaded on the inside and the hole is on the SMA threaded on the outside. Rp SMA is other way around

I'll try to confuse you even more! lol

look at the connector:

If it has a thread on the outside,
and if it has a center pin, it's a RP female
and if it has a center hole, it's a female

If it has a thread on the inside,
and if it has a center pin, it's a male
and if it has a center hole, it's a RP male (plug)
