FrSky 2.4GHz Brownout?
« on: November 30, 2014, 12:09:48 PM »
I'm now using FrSky 2.4GHz on my 250, a Taranis with a DR4-II flashed with the 27ms Firmware and CPPM.

The RX is powered via the Naze32 which takes power from a Turnigy uBEC.

I use to have issues with Spektrum when flying my T-Rex 500 and this year I think a few 'landings' were down to brownouts, I was using an OrangeRX DSM Module with that particular model.

Is there need to add a capcitor to the RX to avoid brownouts or was this specific to the Spektrum 2.4GHz stuff?

I didnt even know about a 27ms FW for the FrSky D4R-II until you posted, I have been flying mine on stock firmware, what's the reason for using 27ms version?

Are you using just 6 chan via PPM?

The standard pulse width is much lower, I think around 18ms and struggles to fit all 8 channels of a PPM signal into a pulse, so usually the last two will be all messed up.

27ms fits all 8 chans in and none get cut off short.

It's easy to flash and just need a 5v FTDI programmer :)

tecnically I only use 6 channels however I have no idea how many are being sent over via my Taranis I have 4 for normal flight then a buzzer and a flight mode switch. I have plenty of 5v ftdi cables here but dont think I will bother if I dont need too!

Well from the looks of it, just the last two chans will be affected and the ones will generally use on quads (1-6) won't be. I just like to have everything updated with the latest firmware, and it's nice to know I can use all 8 chans if I ever find a need to.
