Testing a new Starlight Camera
« on: October 27, 2014, 11:33:47 PM »
Update !
The video below was taken using the supplied daytime lens  :o
It comes with two lenses, one has an IR filter (daytime) the other has no filter (night time)

Ridiculously good low light performance, in fact maybe a little too good as the street lights were too bright for it
This has a direct comparison to the CC1333/PZ0420 IR sensitive camera

Shot at night with no moon or stars, full cloud cover, two street lights within 100m

Christ that is bright. maybe a bit too bright, Might be good Out in the field in total darkness maybe just under the moonlight.

The quality doesn't look all that clever compared to the PZ. does It not have B&W mode? Any osd?

Off topic,  Is that an old boxer dog with a tail?  Dint look at all bother of a quad with 4 spinning blades a few paces behind him/her was like....Meh Ill just sit here looking out at the night haha

It does have an OSD, I like to test and demo on default settings first then if required look into the menu system to make adjustments
I think the camera is going to be very specialist, I have a fair amount of customers from the night shooting fraternity I suspect they might make use of it

The dog is a Staffy/Mastif cross, yeah, he's used to the quads flying round him, I'm always testing new gear and cams in the garden :)

Update, read first post too, I had the ruddy daytime lens on (it comes supplied with two), I will do another video tonight with the night lens fitted DOH !
OSD: Quite basic but all the right settings
Day/Night = Colour or B&W or Auto or External (default), best set to Auto
LTM = On (default) or Off, leave on, it's the equivalent of backlight control, allows you to see in the shadows better

I'll post a daytime video here shortly

Do you mean like a halo/light vignet around the edge ?
If so it's getting too much light, the camera is rather specialist, I suspect most of my customers will come from the night vision/hunting crowd or those with a particular need for this camera
Certainly as a geberal use cam it's not the best but for night vision, well the vids speak for it, it's gobsmackingly good

For our use colour is the way to go
By default it should be set to "external" for B&W change which leaves it in colour mode
You only really need B&W if you're going to be using it in virtual darkness or with an IR illuminator
