Well for the hexa .. more expensive frame, 2 more regs, 2 more motors... what else... bigger battery pack ?  BUT!
if there is malfunction in one section you can still somehow take your copter safely down..

Don't you believe it! What is theoretically possible and what happens in real life is two different things!

BTW an Octo is less efficient than a hex, A hex is less efficient than a quad, You wanted longest flight time, that means a large Quad low kv motors, large props...

You had some accidential crashes with that thing?
Only really crashed it once when I got carried away and didn't notice how much battery I has used it came down pretty heavy on to grass but only broke a leg and a vtx antenna. It has the same arms as a dji so they take a crash quite well and are easy and cheap to replace anyway. I try quite hard not too crash this cos when they get heavy they don't usually crash very well lol
