Well in answer to your question BM it just get's warm
Had it sat on the bench for 2 minutes still not too hot to touch just warm
Flew it for 7 minutes almost cold as it was mounted on the arm of my Tricopter

Personally I'd probably remove the antenna shell and sheathing over the coax, don't see the point in having extra weight on something that's designed to be as light as possible

I am most definately having some of these for myself. so easy to fit and mount, takes up to 24v outputs a clean 5v, great little unit to combine with a micro camera to make an ultra light FPV back back without having to sacrifice performance/range

Yet to range test and don't have the ability to test true power output but I'll get down the beach where I know the limits of my 400mw tx and test against that

I get mine with RHCP antenna

Not easy to test output power with no sma connector, at least not with the immersion power meter!

Think you idea would be the most reliable...
