Hi Everyone
Yes I am still alive, just a quick question. I have inherited an Ohlson & Rice 60 spark ignition engine that I would like to get running but I have no wiring diagram or information on what fuel mixture to use, I have found a couple of old videos on youtube but nothing on how to set it up, does anyone have any ideas please.

Has it got its points still? if so then all you need is a coil battery and capacitor...

Fuel is difficult to say! Oil and petrol has changed a lot in the last 70 years, is the engine gummy? if so then it probably ran on castor oil! would try low octane petrol, and 30% castor.
If the engine shows no sign of gummed up castor then, try some two-stroke oil, but use plenty like 30% to start with...

If you want to gamble a bit, stick in a glowplug and test run it on some standard methanol fuel (NO NITRO!) if all goes well then connect up the spark ign system and test it on the petrol/oil mix.

Of course, you must use a prop or marine flywheel or something.

Modify that a bit! Castor oil doesn't mix well with petrol, it separates out! would stick with the two stroke oil idea!

Thanks for the advice, the engine still has its points and I have the original coil and capacitor but what size battery and how does it all connect together

You probably have one of those tiny coils! I think they were rated at 4v but I would first limit battery voltage to a couple of nicad cells (2.4v) or say 3v max, that should be plenty to create sparks.

No spark then test the capacitor by ohms test, should charge up (flick of the needle) then be high resistance, if the resistance is lowish then its probably leaky, if so try any 0.1uF capacitor, say 100v rating
