FTD programming orangeLRS
« on: September 03, 2014, 08:21:57 PM »
Hey,

I have quite a bit of experience in the arduino environment and *should* be able to program my orangeLRS tx and rx when they arrive (if they arrive). Been using the interface to program ATTiny85 ICs using USBISP so it should be alright for me using FTDI.
Was wondering more about the firmware/code you guys are using for them?

I will be using a 9xr and the acro 32 Naze.

Thanks!

Hi johnny I use the openlrsng firmware, seemed to make a big difference to mine  workedmuch better than stock. Use the chrome app dead easy to flash and setup you can change and configure loads its really good.

I run OpenLRSng on my OrangeRX UHF with a 9XR running OpenTX with Telemetry mod.

It would be great if you could post your settings used! I'm always fiddling with mine and not stuck with any particular setting.

Have you range tested? Now I use telemetry mod but the RX is only 100mw (actual 79mw on IMRC Power Meter) and I started getting packet loss at 1.2miles. Low noise floor, and no fresnel zone violations on that run. Was from a hill to a hill.

At that point I had a baudrate of 9600 but found latency was getting an issue, 12 chan hopping and 433-435mhz. I used a 1/2 wave coiled dipole on the RX and a SRC771 on my 1w TX (actual 419mw on IMRC Power Meter).

Ñever range tested as its only on my mini, but I did turn the packet loss beeps off not long after I started using it, it used to beep even though the tx still had plenty of range in it because the tx is 1W. I use a HK simple osd modded for rssi so I could do a decent test now, I'm gonna change my 450 quad from 2.4 to openlrs soon so I could do a real test then with osd distance and rssi %

When you said packet loss beeps were you just getting a few or lots because if the 100mw (79mw) is getting 1.2 miles before it starts losing then that's a good sign for the range of the 1W

I had heard people say the 1W module  only pits out around 500mw but we should still get decent range from that. I use an rmilerc tx antenna which I think is a Copy of the src771 and just a diy monopole on rx

I use that antenna too with a dipole on quad, well until I lost it in water but will be running the same on new one.

The 1w module pushes out 412mw. We have two and one is 413 and other 412mw. There is a mod to get almost 1w, it's just not getting enough power to achieve it.

Something doesn't make sense there! even if you say Tx gives 400mW, and fit crappy antennas of 0dbi tx and rx end, you should still experience 14km on the average day..

Can't remember for sure, too much hopping will cause latency but can't remamber any figures, my guess is proof is in the pudding! 1 mile range then tx not performing or rx is deaf. are they both configured exactly the same? Probably a good test would be by substitution...

I've got an OSD coming to inject RSSI into and will disable the telemtry and try some different settings and do some range testing again, now I'm back up and running.

I'm down to monopoles at the moment but will give it a blasts:)
