RMRC 1.2ghz 400mw Vs Racewood 1.2ghz 500mw
« on: June 28, 2014, 08:27:45 AM »
Well I thought I would try one of the RMRC vtx, it came very weighty at 60grams in its green aluminium heatsink/case now its been removed its very similar size and weight to the standard racewood 1.2ghz 500mw unit. The plugs are identical too so I will be testing these back to back and get some GS footage from both to compare image quality.

Thats the RMRC on the left and the Racewood on the right

I hear the rmrc has better image quality dave which is why i wanted to try one, I was surprised to hear you say you though the lawmate picture was better that the racewood as I cant really tell any difference.

I couldn't tell the difference between sunsky vtx (the heavy green one) and the lawmate.
With a sunsky/rmrc out of its green case beware that the antenna connector will have little support, especially as they are fitted with the large clumsy standard antenna. very easy to damage the vtx in a crash! In it's green case its almost indestructible...

yes indeed there seems to be some support on the racewood! maybe I will make a mini dipole using a coax pigtail just so it cant take a direct knock via an attached whip antenna!

What frequency do you fly mini on Ben 1160? Make a small antenna extention for minis so you can put tx inside with short bendable extention going to an antenna bracket , antennas are all I'm worried about with spanky vtx antenna has had a a few knocks , I'm prolly going to make a small vee for vtx and a lighter UHF antenna than I have now

hundreds of crashes (literally)on quads with mine pointing upwards so homemade  cut pigtail antennas take full impact with no damage to vtx sma point. destroyed a few antennas though..
the 400 is a way better picture, better colours and sharper picture than my lawmate 1w jobbies, again witnessed through hundreds, possibly thousands of flights..no idea if better than the racewood ones as zero flights using one.

I just received the 500mw racewood, it's already installed into my Skywalker wing, so I'll watch this with interest, see how you get on with the comparison

Yeah I though I had better picture with racewood but might of been the different channel I was on. Or maybe I was just excited to be flying a mini it was clouding my judgment

Is this lawmate 500mw ,  there is a resister inside that's at the bottom of the case between ground and video signal if case gets flexed it can break solder point that can make lawmate picture washed out I've had it happen many times, when it breaks the joint you can tell by putting pressure on bottom of case and it shows movement , this might be why people are seeing diff results

Well it turns out the VTX I had on my spanky was only outputting 40mw, Martin brought along his immersion rf power meter and we tested it, now I cant remember if this was the one that was on the QAV crash as when that was recovered the VTX had the antenna ripped off, will do another comparison test on another day with a different racewood as I have 3.
