HELP ME BUILD MY FPV PLEASE
« on: June 28, 2014, 04:01:19 AM »
Hello everyone! :)
I'm kinda new to FPV, but I've decided to try FPV.
I'm gonna buy a DJI Phantom 2 with the H3-3D Gimbal for my GoPro, but I really want a FPV system. I don't know much of FPV's, so I could really use some help to get me started!
I've been looking into the DJI Lightbridge with a range of 1.7 KM, but it's really expensive (1.399$) and I'm gonna buy the DJI Phantom 2 + Gimbal + Futaba 14SG transmitter as well, which would end in a BIG AMOUNT of money.
I have 800$ to make use of for a FPV, since I'm gonna spend 1400$ for the DJI Phantom 2 (with extra accessories).
And I would really like a FPV that could have a range of maybe 1km (the same as the DJI Phantom 2).
I've been watching Youtube videos about soldering the FPV transmitter into the quad, but unfortunately I can't solder.  :(
So are there any other way to get a FPV (with monitor if possible) for 800$ that can get a range of 1 kilometers?

Thanks in advance

jeez with that budget you'll have no problem finding what you need, look into fat shark they offer plug and play systems and claim 1km of range though i never achieved even half of that

something like this would be plug and play no soldering required
http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/__43057__FatShark_Teleporter_V3_RTF_FPV_Headset_System_w_Camera_and_5_8G_TX.html

you would get better results from swapping the vtx, video transmitter, with a more powerful one like the 600mw immersion rc one and adding better antennas and it would still be plug and play

Won't advise what to get! just too many choices around!

But you will crash many times while flying these (I can Guarantee it!) so PLEASE do not learn to fly these with delicate expensive gimbals and cameras attached. Absolutely no need to overspend on equipment, almost any big name r/c sets will get you out to about a kilometer in free air.

5.8g video gear above 200mW will have a range of about 1k+ in free air!

Think about repair costs and parts availability, DJI and other commercial multi's are the most expensive way into flying, and has the least options! Much more fun to be had from cheaper frames...

There is one thing you will have to do though and you can't really avoid, and that is learn to solder, it's very easy, just need lead content electrical solder, a hot iron (can be inexpensive), and some electrical solder flux

yes agree you don't want to be making your 1st flights with expensive gimbals on board even if a phantom is pretty impossible to crash, not worth the risk. and it is best to learn to solder, i should learn one day  ::)

Okay thank you guys for your response. But I've flown with normal RC heli for quite some time, but I'm just going to start flying quads. Is there a big difference or?
And what about this one?
http://www.dronefly.com/product-p/p2g-pck.htm
I know it's expensive, but I got money for it and I want it to have a long video range.
Is it really 1000 meters video range?
If you can find anything else, that may be cheaper and just as good, then please link me! :D

Thanks in advance

Oh yeah, I got forgot to mention that, I would rather have a screen to look at on my transmitter/controller, than goggles. :D

Immersion RC 600mw VTX (mine on the DJI Phantom was impeccable this weekend)
Immersion Duo 5800 VRX - with CP helical and clover (diversity receiver)
non-blue screen monitor - there are loads of these floating around the market right now, which one will depend on how big you want the screen and what extra features that matter to you
GoPro -> Immersion RC video cable - Hobbyking sell these, so do readymaderc.com

you will not need anything more, apart from the motivation to put it all together in a nice neat package you can take to the field and deploy with minimal fuss.
