Mobius Bushless Gimbal anyone?
« on: April 26, 2014, 08:36:47 PM »
Hey guys, I've been chatting with the guy who makes the following brushless gimbal for the Mobius (no motors or controller) http://www.fpvmonkey.com/mobius-gimbal/ and he is able to put up to 4 kits in the same box/package for the same shipping fee as just one.

I was wondering if anyone here might want one and we could share the shipping fee. I've just put together another one of his products, a monkeyblunt http://www.fpvmonkey.com/monkeyblunt/ and they really do go together really well.

the price for the mobius gimbal is $25 for the gimbal kit and $12 for the shipping... nearly 50% of the value of the item lol... hence this plea for some kind of multibuy.

so, anyone interested?

Mobius Brushless Gimbal as a flight cam?

Yeah, tell him we'll take 20 gimbal kits in exchange for some flying lessons :)

Do you need a controller or does DJi control it?

just to clear some things up...

the KK2 can control an old skool servo type gimbal... and by control I mean "keep it level"

this mobius gimbal requires an alex mos or martinez brushless gimbal control board to "keep it level"

the Naza has the ability to manually change the "tilt" angle, in order to get those nice passing-over-an-object-looking-down shots and so on, it won't control the motors to keep the gimbal level.

Well even the apm will only drive a servo gimbal directly (and there is no code space left to experiment either).

Considering how the price of these gimbals have plummeted in the past 12 months, and that you tend to go for the "ready built" options, you can get a full set up now, ready to go for around £50

Unfortunately, they're all designed for the GoPro, making it tricky to mount a Mobius on there considering how much lighter it is and it's form factor.

I've actually just ordered the cheapest one on goodluckbuy.... I'll try and make the mobius fit, if I don't like it I can strip it for the component parts (motors/controller) and put the parts with this mobius gimbal kit.

You can use a gopro3 version and fit the mobious! hack down (or replace) the mounting and rebalance! May need to adjust pids! Just checked my cheapo and there is clearance all round for the longer mobious!

Alloy construction with gopro3 ready to fly weighs in at 286 grams
Ready to fly weight with Mobious 249 grams

Yes was surprised myself! Only 27 grams difference between the mobious and gopro3!

just taking a look... and I can't see why the gimbal can't be mounted sideways and the pitch/roll motors swapped... that way you could lie the mobius down lengthways on the flat area... my main concern is the weight of the actual gimbal

Not sure what you mean! if you  turn the mounting plate back to the rear, 90 degrees, the roll motor would now be in the yaw axis (obviously not required in a multi)

On the other hand, turning the mounting plate sideways 90 degrees would work but in my case the tilt motor would hit the mounting plate, so no good! Hope that makes sense!

If you're going to use a mobius on a GoPro gimbal you will need some extra weight
Not to balance it as you can acheive that by having the mobius out on the far end of the plate, but to weigh it down to  get rid of jello
