Would be great to get this camera thoroughly tested as I now beleive my words were far truer than I had thought......

It turns out that Sony bought out Pixim and shut down production of the Seawolf effectively eliminating it's competition against the 800tvl CCD and CMOS sensors

might need one, my 600TVL was playing up on that lighthouse flight, kept flicking between black and white and colour.

Try your camera linked direct to a monitor/tv first, flicking to black and white can be a symptom of video signal problems caused by RF transmision

looking at the video, it only went to black and white when it was pointing up at the sky, or when there was mostly sky in shot... a brightness thing perhaps?

now that I'm not building the Go Discover (still need to find a buyer) I have Ben's Pixim for the skywalker. but I might need one of these for my monkeyblunt

Where can I get one of these to test/review?

These could well be the perfect camera for the Dom HDs.

Well to be fair the fact the Dom HD's are HD won't make any real difference, the analogue transmitter will become the weak link
What these cameras excell at is clarity through the WDR and built in firmware, the image really is good but here's the downside...
Not many recording devices handle the video feed properly, on screen and in goggles it's fantastic

Mark's Archos won't recognise the feed at all, my Canon camcorder display it in weird colour bands, my 2ch DVR seems OK with it though but I'd like to have a high quality recording to show it off

As a retailer I'm reluctant to put them on sale without resolving the issues, I know that it will be a fantastic camera if you don't intedn to record it but of course that limits the potential marketplace
I am in conversations with a firm in the UK who may be able to access all the registers to reprogram things but it's early days yet

Have you tried it with the PV700 recorders like bevrc and firstpersonview sell?

That's what I and many others use.

I expect this is just the tip of the iceberg, the potential of conflicting resolutions!

There are the old dom's at 480 lines that will work with just about anything, nice but 1980's technology.

Now the so called HD Dom's that are not HD at all. their 600 lines would have been HD if they were produced in the last century, but the current minimum HD is considered 720 lines.

Having a camera resolution of 800 lines (as in the case of the Sony CCD Effio-V 800TVL Ultra WDR cam)
is genuine low range HD

I'm pretty sure that the VTx/VRx system for full HD would need about 20mHz bandwidth to transmit video, Not aware of any cheap miniature systems capable of doing that and probably would only allow one or two systems to work side by side at any one time anyway! From memory the current system channel width is in the region of 5mHz so guessing you would need roughly 10MHz bandwidth.

Tv monitors would probably handle these high res signals easiest, even with a bit of bad matching, Perhaps not DVR Recorders though(that's why blueray was brought out)

Think that Vtx/VRx video bandwidth is the first big hurdle, following that, recording is probably a close second! A real HD system will produce immense file sizes, Don't think a laptop would record it, even USB3 is not fast enough!

the optional DVR Travel Adapter on the ARCHOS 405 and 605 & their DVR Station record at 480 lines so it's understandable if the Archos fails to record it, In fact I would be surprised if it would record 520 lines

Anyway although I like Fatshark in general, I wish they would rename their Dom's! Calling them HD is wrong and confusing!

Dominators standard (480 lines)

Dominators HD (600 lines)

efio V     (800 lines)

Archos 405 240 lines
Archos 605 480 lines
Archos 705 480 lines

PV700 recorder manual states: records (780 x 480 lines) - same as the Archos!

These things do need to be tested of course but don't be surprised if they are not compatible! And be careful before buying incompatible gear!

I already have an Archos 605 and have an efio V in transit, also have a STARTech capture device for the laptop that will reportedly record 576 lines, so hope to do some testing as well soon...

Well the vtx will efefctively downgrade the resolution anyway, I think the issues are far more to do with video gain

I've seen similar before, firstly with an EZcap USB capture device (genuine one) then with some DVRs/OSD's when used with a Sony 650tvl mini cam, both that cam and the 800tvl have something in common and that's their low light sensitivity and I further beleive that Sony may have whacked the gain up to help acheive this

Soon as I get a chance I will try a bright daylight recording using my 2ch DVR, I may also buy a PV700 as one of those would go nicely dangling on the end on the A/V out cable on my new goggles

Try it with and without an osd, can't really see sony making such a basic mistake in the 1v pp video out signal but the osd video out to vTx might be crushing the sync pulses.

Actually that's a good point BM
Not long after using the 800tvl on my APM quad my Mavlink OSD stopped working (wierd)

I don't think the OSD is the culprit however as the last test I did was to have the camera plugged directly into the A/V input on my Canon HV20 camcorder....

The pictures great on a monitor and great in the goggles but look what happens when it goes through a DVR/recording device

Ah right the picture was rock solid, colours going wrong could be a million things, but with all the chroma signal processing now done in IC's it's worth checking for hot chips, Does it work ok when first connected and deteriorate with time(as chips warm up)? Or maybe a dodgy xtal, does the fault occur on just that camera or on all of the same type?

Just throwing out ideas for now!
