Mutleys new ground station tracker
« on: February 16, 2014, 08:00:29 PM »
A while ago I decided that my bag as far as FPV ing was the ability to fly anywhere I wanted to, as long as it was safe, and not be restricted by the technical side of hobby. This took me down the "rabbit hole" that is ground stations and trackers.
The spec/want list I decided on was
Portable
Long distance
360 deg
Clutter free
Light and able to pack in a back-pack
User friendly (idiot proof)
I used the new EFPV tracker, but made a few changes as their tracker is setup for use with Eagletrees systems and I wanted to keep using my Immersionrc gear and I wanted an internal display/lipo to power both the VRX's and my Fatshark Dominators, this is what I came up with.

IMG 2675

Spec is
Immersionrc Duo Rx
Immersionrc antenna tracker 100degs tilt/360degs pan (buttons removed and replaced with high IP mounted in front panel
Hitec HS625MG x2
5volt ubec
My own antennas (helical 10 turn, and skew planar)
2200mah with charge point or parallel input
Isolator
Volt meter
Tripod
Fatshark Dominators with single cable supplying AV and power
This is to be used with my TBS Disco and Ritewing Zephyr 2
Had a right giggle with it today, loads of sun shine and flood plains  ;D

It will track 360degs but goes 180degs then flips round, tried it today and didn't notice any drop-out of VTX.
Its just on a self test mode and is used for set-up, just did it so there was some thing moving on the vid, well chuffed with it.
Roll on summer and low passes with the Zephyr  ;)
Some more pic's

Hi mate,

i see that the tracker doesn't rotate more than 350 Deg, is this due to a servo limitation or due to a mechanical limitation?

Thank you.

It will do 380degs, I increased the servo travel after I took the vid, just didn't notice and it took a few more setting tweek's till I got it 101%. It's not a plug and play type unit and expect a few setting changes as you use a new tracker, all part of the learning curve ;)

It was mainly about the servo Pan us/360 settings, just needed to increase to get 360degs on the Immersionrc tracker unit.
The other point was I found I was using the tracker on hill sides more than I though so the tilt needed increasing to allow the tracker to face the antenna down a hill side, all part of getting to know what you want from a unit.
Hope this helps, good luck with your build :)
