MrBens FPV Skyfun
« on: January 10, 2014, 07:35:30 PM »
My FPV Skyfun, build complete, maiden tomorrow.

Here she is in all her glory, weighs in @ 894g with a 3s 3300mah

Lawmate VTX sunk into wing and inverted Vee on the vertical stab

Servos moved to top of wing and pushrods changed to m2 bar & clevis

32mm (including case) cam from Sc2000 fitted to nose, nice and light @ 14grams

UHF rx sunk into underside of wing, many channels used with eagle tree guardian hooked up

Turnigy 2836-2350kv motor hooked upto a 40amp plush esc and spinning a 6x4 apc

Fibreglass sheet glued in with 30min epoxy under battery with belt strap, you deffo dont want the battery coming loose in flight as that could end in disaster  ;D ;D ;D

The inverted vee, just followed Ibcrazy tutorial

Magnets to hold canopy closed and eagle tree guardian to provide stability for my 6 year old son, this does both 2d (self level) and 3d (holds attitude) and can be also disabled. I have the modes set to a 3 way switch on my taranis and the gains on a dial.

Using some 6mm carbon tube as a dowel to hold canopy in position

Left to right : LC filter, 5v Ubec for lawmate vtx, hobbyking simple osd (voltage only)

There's the 3s 3300 mah fitted, COG is at front of grip holes underneath.

We have about 2mm reflex on elevons, about 10mm movement and 60% expo

no just for cruising around, bit of cloud busting, could probably do 15mins flight with throttle management, should be good for medium range too, I'm guessing 8km out and back wont be hard

Maiden went sweet, me and my son had 2 shared flights I will try and get a video up shortly.

A couple of things, after the first flight I reduced the roll rates from 100% to 80% and the expo from 60% to 40% as it was spinning faster than a prop when the stick was hard over. With the cog just in front of the grip holes the elevator wasn't very effective and this combined with 60% expo and it needing quite a lot of elevator trim to keep the nose from dropping in flight meant we nearly went into the top of a tree on first launch, I also suspected it might not make it through a loop. I moved the cog back by 10mm for the second flight and reduced the expo from 60% to 20%, the elevator now feels more responsive and I was comfortable in attempting a loop which was successful however I feel the cog might need moving back a bit more yet.

On the fpv side of things the lightweight cam from sc2000 has always seemed a bit blurred I did try to focus it before maiden and then refocused it before 2nd flight but actually made it worse, however we have a PZ0420 plastic case version on the way which will replace it. We also got a bit carried away on the maiden and after 10mins the 3s lipo was down to 9.3v  managed to glide in nicely though so no harm done. I will be ordering a Skylark tiny OSD so we can keep a better eye on mah and speed and therefore cruise more efficiently.
