FPV Funjet

I've been dying to compete in the round trip speed challenge, and attempted to soup up a Slipstream 1m, which tore itself to pieces in mid-air.

I wanted to reuse the power system, so bought Funjet Ultra.

The idea was to make it as fast as possible, but yet still carry FPV gear. Managed to just about squeeze everything in. Weighs in at just over 1.2kgs.

what happened? did it just get too far away, was it tail heavy or what? any damage?

confused here as to what happened...they can't half shift

Looking at it closer after the crash one of the elevons was torn with no surrounding damage.

I replaced the original pushrods with thicker ones, and it looks like they're binding and pushing the elevons slightly sideways - guess it caused the foam to tear.

Was flying great on launch (managed to recover from the throw and torque roll easily).

At the point it started circling I had little to no control. Combination of bad luck and poor job putting it together.

I'll learn one of these days.

Almost airworthy again now though thanks to shit loads of CA, gorilla glue, and three carbon spars over the join.

sorry to hear the maiden didn't go as planned but sounds like you will be. back in the air in no time.

Turn your throws down to about 5-7mm up and down, launch at 30 degrees with 60% throttle. have COG 1/2" forward of COG marks.

Ta Chris - throws were a little higher than that, though I did have a fucktonne of expo. Will reduce rates and reduce expo a touch before next flight I reckon.

Was our first attempt at launching, and wasn't sure on best method on such a heavy setup - resorted to lobbing it as hard as possible into the wind. Will try getting it around 30 degrees next time with less force.

Did you strengthen the hinge at all? At that power I would get some strong tape across the top and bottoms at the very least.

had the same problem with my stryker f-27q. With little models like this it seems the hinge's are the first thing to give way when at high speed's due to the extra weight placed in the model. Simple fix re hinge, pin the hinge's then use some good old reinforced fibreglass tape it works a treat on mine anyways.

Unfortunately not - wish I had have done though - would have saved a lot of messing about

I'll stick it back on with some re-enforced tape and a couple of dabs of CA.

Whoa - that's awesome - just watched that via 3G in the airport, Switzerland - prob cost about 9 quid. Worth every penny :-)
