Built myself a new suitcase ground station this weekend as I was fed up with the botch job I used this year.
It's quite amazing what you can do with some blue foam and some carbon effect wrap!

Looks like something off search and destroy on call of duty
like the ignition switch. Just don't get it out in crowded places or you might get shot by the police

Looking good mate, I like it....
hehe, one of the first things I ever did when I got into this hobby was build an elaborate GS case.... blue LEDs, voltage meter, led switches etc.... was a complete waste of time due to the fact that I didn't really have any success with the flying side of things lol.
by the time I actually had something I could fly, it worked out easier to just use goggles with built in receiver.
now i've moved up a bit though, I really do need to revisit the prospect of a proper ground station. Mostly because I'm moving to 1.2/3 video and my goggles are 5.8.

Chris - nice one mate, you will have to let us know how you get on with 1.2. I'm still flying 2.4 with rmilec but like having the diversity and av500 hence the case.

I was flying 2.4 with the Rangelink but I started getting out a bit further than 2.4 on omni CPs would let me go.
My plans are to buy 2 x 1.2 receivers and plug them into the eagle tree diversity. have one video output to my DVR and one video output to a 5.8Ghz VTX, all powered from a 3S Lipo and enclosed (apart from the VTX which would need air) within a nice neat maplins(or similar) project box and quick release mountable on a tripod.
That way I can stay "wire free" using the 5.8 rx in the goggles and also get some decent distance between the UHF RC and the 1.2 recievers
The thing with a "briefcase" style GS is that you need either a table or a car/van roof to put it on, my GS case was too big and heavy to mount to a tripod.

Would that not cause a bit of lag with the image being transmitted twice?

I have just built my first ground station it's not as cool as yours but it's small enough to mount on a tripod.
