FPV Starter Package for open field
« on: November 21, 2013, 03:56:56 AM »

http://hobbywireless.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=117_88_92&products_id=996

I am looking at this system for initial experience. Open fields no woods.......

I am considering this system for several reasons:
I fly on 2.4
The antenna upgrades
Dual Receivers
2x audio and video outputs,

Please take a look and see what you think.
Platforms: flying wing, T-28, glider.
fast...slow....and sporty not too worried about going out over a mile ....yet........

Your input is appreciated

Kevin

have a look at the 1.2/1.3 equipment (be sure to use a frequency away from 1.2 though, due to harmonics with 2.4) you may kick yourself later on in your FPV adventures when you want to get a UHF control system (LRS) which are always coming down in cost, and want to go further than just a mile and you'll have to buy 1.2/1.3 gear anyway.

I agree with chris If I was starting again with what I know now  I'd be looking at 1.3 or just getting uhf straight away and 1.1-1.2

I've been looking at this Tx/Rx set up by Hobyking:-
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__35009__1_2GHz_100mW_Video_Transmitter_and_Receiver_Combo.html
looks like there are 4 channels to choose from :)

Hey captain T I would not bother with that as it won't be good enough, if your going to stick with using the supplied radio transmitter you got with the phantom then you best bet is using 5.8 for your video as 1.2 will clash with your 2.4 radio transmitter. Only thing is 5.8 is very poor for low flying behind objects.

but you can use a low pass filter, but I've never tried, also you can use a lower channel like 1.1 or higher like 1.3, but also I've never tried

What about the 4th channel @ 1340 MHz? Eventually, it will be used with my Futaba 7C.

Low pass filter? Will have to do some research on that.

Great idea dave, until his 2.4 tx looses reception when he flys behind something.Isn't that the reason you dont have 1.2 dave?

Also can you fit a low pass filter to the hobbyking 1.2 kit captain t has linked to?

I've looked at this thread and I'm still lost  :-[

I'd live to have range that will not be effected by a bridge or heavy woodland, and get me 2 to 3 KMS happily.

I have just got a fatshark teleporter v3, but I'm guessing I have to pull this apart and change the electronics?

Radio, I need all of it
So, is there a one stop thread with links to give me comfortable range on vision and radio?thanks

Just my opinion, based on my experiences

If I were starting from scratch, right now with what I know now, I'd get:

FrSky Taranis
EZUHF
Lawmate 1.2Ghz Video gear

Regardless of whether I intend to fly within 100m or 10km away, the combination of UHF RC and 1.2 Video will give you best picture and safest/most reliable control for all situations.

FrSky Taranis because it's easy to put a LRS system onto it, and even if I use the built in 2.4Ghz for Control and 5.8GHz for video, I know I've still got great range and reliability from my transmitter
EZUHF because it's pretty much the best LRS available without breaking the bank. Yes, there are brilliant cheaper alternatives such as RangeLink (which is awesome by the way) but there are also a few overpriced options too. EZUHF sits in the middle and gives you more range and penetration than you'll probably ever need
Lawmate 1.2GHz Video gear because, again, the range and penetration of these low frequencies outperform 5.8GHz and 2.4GHz by miles and miles, literally.

I've had everything from 35MHZ, 2.4 and UHF control systems, and it's cost me a small fortune. I just wish I'd spent big once at the beginning instead of buying cheap multiple times.

Again, I've used both high and low powered versions of 5.8 and 2.4 video systems, and unless you spend out even more on directional antennas or diversity/tracking systems... they just don't give you enough confidence to fly out any further than a couple of KM. 5.8 in particular, can be very badly affected just by how it's placed on your aircraft. it only takes the plane/quad to be in a certain attitude and the LiPo blocks the signal and you're in panic mode.

I wasn't helped when I started as I had a lot of BAD advice sent my way. If I'd have got the stuff I listed above right at the beginning I'd be at least a thousand quid better off, and had a much better FPV experience.

Top Response thank you

I was leaning that way after reading through a lot of posts.
Thanks again for taking the trouble to post what must be
discussed over and over.

But isn't 1.2 used by aviation and consequently not a good idea?

Vass if your goggles have a video in port, which they probably do you can just us an external 1.2 vtx. No need to pull anything apart.
