Dead cat yaw problem
« on: October 08, 2013, 06:33:45 AM »
I am now using a dead cat frame. When I hover and simply yaw left or right the Quadcopter rolls and pitches as well! If I yaw very slow it is fine but anything near half stick input on the yaw and it is all over the place!
I am using a Naza Lite with GPS which when it was in my X Quadcopter it was perfect!
I am running 30amp plush esc's and 900kva NTM motors with 8 x 4.5 props.
I am guessing that it is because on the dead cat frame the two front arms are effectively longer due to being swept back causing uneven torque?
Am I right and can I do anything to correct it?
I will try to upload a video later.
Thanks
Ian

I have a similar issue on my TBS Disco frame, everything was fine when the naza was on a simple X frame.

Mine's not as noticeable as you're describing yours though.... it only happens to me when I full on yank left or right.

its the uneven geometry that's doing it,you'll need to adjust pitch and aileron gains different to compensate.
that's why I flogged my Disco ages ago, straight FF and hover great, huge stick movements and fast banks no,unless you do the above.

Dragonlink and cyclops storm not a good mix, lots of random uhf noise reducing the dragonlink range from the storm because of the onboard switching regulator.

A bit random, although very helpful information no doubt lol.

Thank you all for your advice, I have got it as good as I can for now. I have dropper the yaw down to 75 and upped the roll and pitch to 150. Not perfect but it now holds its position when yawing. Next on the agenda is batteries.
Thanks again.

A quick update for anybody suffering the same problem.
I have moved the front arms further in to the frame effectively making them shorter by about an inch. Before I did this the frame was about 2' either side wider than the rear arms and that was causing problems with the yaw. I have also placed the Naza box further back ignoring the recommended placement lines on the bottom plate. It seems like the SK450 dead cat geometry is wrong, it is much better now and I have been able to put my yaw rate back up to 140%.
Hope this helps.

I found this video informative about setting up the kk2 board using the dead cat frame layout.
