lucky escape
« on: June 16, 2013, 07:55:43 PM »
I smashed my skyhunter into the ground at 75kph today... the result was carnage and 2 x LiPos were badly damaged/squashed on impact.

I chucked them in my FPV toolbox and put them in the boot of the car. Got home and put the FPV toolbox in my garage.

NOTE: my fpv toolbox is NOT the ammo tin I store my LiPos in, it's a plastic tool box from B&Q which stores my Transmitter w/rangelink, my fatsharks, and my DVR... basically everything I need to go FPVing... in a box.

I came on the forum feeling sorry for myself then thought... I'd better get those damaged LiPos out of the garage.

as I was bringing them to the house to leave in the garden ready for when I next go to the tip... one of them started smoking in my hands. I looked down and saw the drain cover... it looked like the safest place to drop it... so I just chucked it down and ran to get the camera to film it.

by the time I got back outside it had completely burnt out (I could see tonnes of smoke through the window).... or so I thought...

beware... colourful language within...

yes mark, zippy compact.

also the same as what ruined Cupid Stunt's garage, zippy compact

straight after the crash it was squashed at one end. by the time I looked at it just before this happened, it had puffed up a little. that's when it started smoking.

so i binned the other one too, it wasn't as damaged as this one, but I'm not risking keeping a lipo from a crash as bad as that skyhunter one... 75kph into the ground... ouch!!

time to save up for that Ventus eh mark lol

Guys LISTEN UP !

Get those lipos OUT of your houses, NEVER charge unattended, crash damaged or not they can blow, OK it's more likely after a crash and also possible if a cell is playing up whilst being charged

Don't put them in sealed containers, make sure there's enough air holes otherwise you coudl be making a bomb, fast charge if the battery will allow so that you can stay in the same room and not be tempted to leave it alone charging
Tins are OK but the heat from these thing may well burn through, plant pots would be better as would bakeware (don't tell your Mrs I said so :) )
