5.8Ghz Antenna's - whip or no whip?
« on: January 16, 2012, 12:29:13 PM »
Do you need to mount a 5.8Ghz antenna up and away from the plane?

For example on a flying wing. Without whip the antenna will sit maybe 1cm proud of the wing and with a whip more like 5-6cm.

Do you get better reception either way?

Theirs a guy on youtube who answers your question spot on . This must be just one of those questions everyone asks myself included  :D where you end up with conflicting answers .

The result is he fits the antenna up on top of the plane to the side and to the belly and the conclusion is there isn't any visible difference in the video BUT that was using a foam plane and would think that the more carbon rods in proximity to the antenna the harder the signal will find it to penetrate so its more a case of trial and error and type of air frame your using as to where you place the VTX and antenna
