Whether it's a bargain depends on where you live, if in the uk/Europe then 2.5watts on 900mHz is going to seriously piss off the mobile phone companies... For choice of antenna, you need to look into Antenna theory, A half wave dipole is good, it's called a linear. Clover leaf, & skew planner has less gain, so less distance, they are CP or circularly polarised, but they are chosen because they overcome multipath. There are higher gain antennas that can be fitted to the Rx end, called patches, helicals, yagis, etc. But hell how far do you want to fly? 2.5W on 900mHz and two halfwave dipoles should be good for up to 25 Km in good conditions. If your just starting out then 1.5Km (1 mile) is quite a challenge.
