Video woes...
« on: January 14, 2012, 02:59:17 PM »
So I'm flying with a BEVRC 5.8Ghz 200mw system with stock antenna's.

So far the video has not inspired much confidence and I've barely been flying that far away.

I've got my vTX mounted at the end of my wing. The antenna actually sits slight proud of the winglet out into open air. The receiver is on a tripod and the antenna is above head height.

I noticed as I started climbing that I would start to get a poor signal when around 250m high. I tried a few times and it seemed quite consistent.

Now will I get much better signal with some cloverleafs or similar? My 1meter wing has to cruise at 20amps and 40-50mph because it weighs so much so it feels like i'm just going round in circles right now and not able to go anywhere before the interference hits me!

I have read that 5.8ghz stuff really works well with CP antennas, I would be trying some ... I been looking at the windmill & fan I think they are newer design than clove & skew but Im still researching them before I buy.

I have the same Tx as you from BEVRC, throw away the stock rubber duck antennas and buy/make the clover leaf and skew planar wheels antennas.  If you want really long range get a helical antenna and a pan/tilt tracking station like I have then you will be golden.  In short forget the standard antennas they are crap

Yup totally agree on using circular polarized clover/skew antennas on 5.8 gear. 2Works like a charm and very confidence inspiring.
