Camera Stabalization
«
on:
November 19, 2012, 06:35:23 PM »
I want to use the following camera holster
http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo=goods_details.dwt&goodsid=705&productname=
My question is simple,
what do I connect the servos to? A stabilization board with tilt sensors? How would you do it?
Many thanks in advance!
Hazel.

Manually it can be done without fancy controllers, by using Tx Knobs or a head tracker, just uses Rx spare channels.
I think DJI have a stability feature built in.
Or if your using APM then the code is already in place for auto control, just enable the desired axis and connect your servos to the appropriate pins!

Hi bigMouse (interesting name BTW) thanks for the reply, so how would I go about finding the correct pins? I assume this info is held in the manual I would receive with the board?

Hazel, if you end up getting the APM (like you've spoken about in other posts) the servos will connect directly to certain pins on the board itself, the manuals are all online: http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/ and http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/APM2board

Ah, well there lies the catch, there is no manual! There is the wiki which is very informative, but generally quite out of date and bewilderingly difficult to search. Then there is the Mission Planner, again no manual. You have to learn yourself as you progress! There is a good active forum on diy drones site. This is one of the several reasons why I mentioned that this is not a strictly plug and play system...
It's pins a10 & a11 on the apm2.5 as shown in second picture down here:
http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/APM25board_Overview
ps, I have several aliases, whatever enters my head when joining!

That's not a great idea, I tried that naming method once but gave up after registering "cockfarts", "tittywobblers" and "suasagenibblers"

I keep continuity across similar forums so I'm bm in any fpv forum, just that there is no cryptic reason for using it! That's a good choice of names though...

Downside with fancy gimbals (and fancy ones are usually over-expensive) is that they are the first thing to get damaged when the multi drops. And they do drop! Cheaper versions are probably the better option, Something to consider if you have money to gamble with (or build your own, that's a cheaper way!

Im going to try this mount on my hex i think.
http://www.aeroxcraft.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=5
Seems to get good reviews, unbeaten for the price apparently.
Ive just ordered the legs and am waiting on a reply from someone else before i click buy.
It will plug straight into the Naza.

Hey guys,
@ Cupid Stunt, ingenious idea, not the best looking, but looks don't matter (do they?). Out of my price range for a frame anyways
@ bigMouse... you raise a good point. For me, 37 bucks for a Gimbal from RCTimer is ok. I want to attach a broken Fuji Finepix which only takes video footage to the Gimbal, but it weighs in at 350g. Do you think this is going to overload the quad? Especially in light of the fact I will be using 20 amp ESCs?
Balders, hats of to you SIR!

I was planning on using this frame combo deal for experimentation...
http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo=goods_details.dwt&goodsid=735&productname=
So that is BC2836-1120KV Motors and 10x4.5" CF Propellers
