£100
« on: October 14, 2012, 07:57:12 PM »
Evening everybody
I have been offerd a plane ( IC ) and all its bits for £100, what I would like to ask all of you in the know is this question.
This model comes with a Futaba Skysport 4 35Mhz system and would it be worth buying the whole lot for the £100 that he is asking.

ideally you want something with more channels even if you arent going to bother with head tracking or pan/tilt you could still use extra channels for OSD options, lost plane alarms etc, Id go for 6 anything more is a bonus.

Hey martin,

depending on what model the aircraft is, and the state of it (is it serviceable, does it come with any fuel etc) £100 seems an OK amount to spend on the gear.

However, the futaba skysport 4 35mhz radio system probably isn't very good for FPV purposes. any chance of some pictures of the plane?

hmmm, with that.... one crash and it'll be all over. that's why I like foamies like the bixler. personally (but this is only me) i'd spend that £100 on more FPV gear....I don't know enough about IC stuff to spend the money... up to you though at the end of the day :)

My kids fly one similar to this and they are quite forgiving (the plane not the kids  :P). It takes a healthy engine to get the best out of a ic trainer of this size (irvine 46 or OS 40). The one in the pic looks like it is getting to the end of its life and they can be a bugger to start and tune at this stage. A new 40 motor will set you back £80. It looks like it has had a fair dose of castor fuel through it which gums up the inside of the plane. Synthetic nitro (usually about 10% nitro) is the way to go now. Supertec servos are not the best either, hitec or futaba basic servos would be better.

Its your choice to buy it bud but in my opinion there are better ways to go. If you do buy, first thing to do is change the plug for a new OS No 8 and make sure the main needle in the carb is not gummed up. Consider replacing the electrics switch as these can deteriate over time

Good luck and if you need any help drop us a line.

If you were going to learn to fly it would last you say 4/6 months providing you didn't crash the plane and write it off.

You'd out grow the transmitter quickly it has no model memory so you cannot use it on more than one model or two well set up models that fly very simlar to each other and in set up are perfect to each other.

thanks for all the sound advice, I was mainly looking at the RC Equiptment but I think I will stick with my DX6i for now and put a £100 into starting to get my fpv gear together for my Skysurfer.

put the £100 towards a UHF system like dragonlink, rangelink or ezuhf.
