Lost my Raven wing today !

Hey guys - i was having a great time today straffing an old railway bridge which is now part of a nature trail.

I dont know what happened really, the Raven was pretty low granted when it dropped a wing and then the video just disintegrated into nothing. I was flying on JR 2.4G radio and 5.8G video. Surely the range should be better than the picture below??

I found the plane in a tree intact but was gutted that the video hadnt recorded on my Archos

The range on 5.8 is not very good. Also it does not cope well with anything between you and the plane, especially trees and concrete!

Thanks for the comment - i seemed to loose control of the plane before the video went. To be fair  i was in a field surrounded by trees and i deffo dropped behing the tree line to run the bridge. Would 2.4G radio with a full range reciever have dropped out ??

I would have thought the radio link should hold at that range even with the trees but if they where dense then they could still effect it but no where near as much as with the video.

Did you just loose complete control? How was your airspeed when you lost it?

No GPS or OSD on the wing so im not sure on airspeed. Its a really docile wing on the stall but i wonder if i simply stalled and lost control. When i found the wing everything was still plugged in and the battery was at 65%, radio was fine on board.

I am getting a bit worried because its the same radio i use for my jet turbine and 26% Yak !

Are you saying that your 2.4g Rx was not a full range one?
if so then you ran out of range!
What power is Your 5.8 vtx?
200mw should be good for a kilometer LOS, won't work behind trees though.

Rx was a full range AR400. I have just been out and range checked with reduced power (button pressed in) and got 70m, almost the full length of the field i use. Instructions say to range check to 28m !! Perhaps i did stall it ? God i hate it when i dont know what has happened !

yeah nothing more annoying.  At least if you have some onboard video, you can watch back and go ahhh...it was x y z ...

I guess i will just chuck it up again next time the sun comes out and refrain from faffing about too low.

Final thought, tis a bit hilly where i live. The field where i took off is at 185m above sea level and the bridge is at 165m (on the deck) so i guess if i straffed the bridge not only did the trees get in the way but 15 m of planet earth ! Surely that must have caused the problem!

I have had my body cause signal loss on spectrum before when I flew behind myself, pretty soon went over to 35mhz then uhf after that
