nooooooo you have barely had it two mins its not that bad is it?

Other than the lack of method to secure the wings without permanently afixing them it seems great (though judgement is reserved for if it ever gets in the air)

Relying on friction (tape on the spar) isn't going to work as friction will be overcome by forces waggling the wings up and down and that same friction will stop the wings from sliding back into place in the air (that's why springs and rubber bands have become a traditional method as they apply a constant opposing force to that exerted by the waggling to pull the wings back on as they move up and down

For me I could easily just permanently fix the wings on as my Fiat Multipla will take the plane fully assembled but as one of the first owners I wanted to find a proper solution that workable for all owners

Just getting titsed off with it now and the dumbass stupidity of the designer/manufacturers who really should have known better considering the history with the 1400mm Skysurfer and the way that many modern planes have adopted nylon pegs

mark the rod at the centre. then push the rod all the way down one tube. mark how far in the rod went. pull out the rod and measure between the 2 marks. find another rod, same diameter, or better still, some foam (lighter) and cut it to this length. push this rod/foam down into the tube with the spar. now there's something stopping it from going all the way into the wing.

do this with the other side too and there should be minimal, if any, movement of the spar during flight and you'll have peace of mind that the spar is equally positioned down each wing :)

as for joining the wings... this is how I did it on the BixlerV1. velcro on the root of each wing half, then joined by single length of opposing velcro. perhaps 3 of these "strips" for a wing as large as the super skysurfer.

Others used those sticky hooks and elastic bands, but this for me puts undue exertion on the wings. the velcro exerts no force on the wings, it simply "counters" the would-be force of the wings separating.

I also drilled some holes along each wing root, directly opposite each other. placed epoxy into each cavity, along with a neodymium magnet. taped over the cavities and placed the wings together so the opposing magnets would attract eachother and get stuck in the correct place. when the epoxy dried the wings are only joined by the force of the magnets, easy for a person to un-join, but used with the velcro technique, pretty much impossible for any flight manoeuvre or high wind to break them away.

I think this pic illustrates the velcro method better than my words above....

Thanks Chris but I'm not doing anything unsightly to it, maybe it's OCD or just being a pedant but I hate and detest doing unsightly stuff like that to a new plane

get measurements sorted and stuff a piece of dowel down each tube to create a stopper?

to be honest, in hind sight, that picture I did looks worse. my video on youtube showing my bixler mods is probably best, it definitely wasn't unsightly I promise:

Cheers Chris, I may go with using a dowel to stop the rod from going down the wing too far combined with velcro underneath if I can get it tidy enough and keep it streamlined

PS
I forgot to update re the flap servos

Very strangely they had mounted the servos opposite to each other in a mirror image as you would do with aileron servos, in theory that would mean the control surfaces would move in opposite directions when both servos are wired to the same channel using the supplied Y lead
However, what they have done is to re-wire one of the servos internally so that it is reversed, most likely the designer goofed up and the servo reversal was a fix for that as all other planes with flaps have the flap servos mounted in the same direction

so you were right then, does it look like there's any scope to fit the servo in the "right way" if you ever need to replace them?

Also, do the electronics look half decent? I stripped the servos out of the FPVRaptor before even giving them a sniff of electricity lol, they just looked like crap and I didn't trust them. (that reminds me, I must order some more servos to fix my raptor up when I come home)

It would be easy to change the servo round, there's plenty of room to turn it in the recess

As for the electronics, it's impossible to tell really, truth is I've had more brand name servos fail than the standard fitted Chinese stuff

I did similar thing with velcro on my junior graupner ,then I try with neodymium magnets fit two pairs "bit smaller then 10pence coin" and they hold wing quite strong together ,so for such big wings could try them.
Quite cheap on ebay ,I found in block shapes.

How to make the Wings lock in place

you need 1 hole towards the front of the wings to go down through the body and wing to lock them in

(and I just spotted after I posted this ideas already there)   ??? ???

like this:

Unfortunately Mark the wings don't overlap vertically, they interlock horizontally so a locking pin won't go through both wing halves at the same time

Oh well, I hate having to take a knife to a brand new plane just to get it to work properly but as nobody wants to take it off my hands then I'll just get round to doing it in my own time

If i was back home I'd be very tempted to take it off you, unlike you I'd be willing to make it look a bit messy if it meant that the wings wouldn't drop off. how about 4 x bbq skewers... two at the front and two at the back, pinning the wings in place.

OK here's some more pictures of the Super Skysurfer wings and how they go together

Here you can see the 13mm and 6mm spars and how they go into tubes which are fixed in the wing halves:

The wings fully joined:

The pine dowel rods used as end stops to prevent the 13mm spar from going too far into the tube as you slide the wing halves together for the 13mm spar I used 2 off 12mm dowel each being 285mm long, you had best measure your own to make sure, I also did the same for the 6mm spar though do measure as one side is longer than the other

Notice the flap servos are mirror image and if you can see it you may notice that one of them has had the cable swapped out to white/red/black as opposed to all the others being orange/red/brown

Something of concern is the fact that when assembled with both spars in place the wing halves are slightly out of alignment (twisted), this is forced back into place when the wing is in the fuselage but of course that means there is constant pressure on the fuse, I may decide to remove the 6mm spar as I can't see that it does much at all really, it's tiny and only goes as far as the flap servos
It's hard to see in this pic how bad the twist is but trust me left uncorrected the plane would be doing 4 rolls a second :)
