If your intention is to replace the fc or hack the existing one to be able to use other features! I'd seriously suggest that you just go and fit a full APM, have seen them as cheap as £40. £60 complete with gps and mag. Even the cheapest Cheerson apm fc replacement is £45 and you will need to hack into it!

Or just treat the quad for what it is and have fun! My friend has one and he is a timid flyer, its a piece of piss to fly, might I say, almost boring!

Biggest limitation I think is the battery bay size limits you to 2200 size, and those legs look very weak!

@Tecnic - Ok great thanks for the info.

I picked this up for $250 shipped so even if I have to do some upgrades at some point, I think I'm still coming away ahead.

I also have just bought a 'zero' version from Steve Webb Models, distributed by Century UK, it costs me £225

I cant seem to calibrate it for level flight, it requires stick input to maintain its position unless I put it in GPS mode. I have successfully calibrated the TX though, however I cant calibrate the compass either.

Swap the FC out for an APM and download the parameter files from the RCG thread
They're a great aerial video platform for a gimbal/GoPro combo, interesting to mess with mission planning for 10 minutes, you can take the landing gear off and tweak the max tilt setting to 3500 and have some sporty fun too if/when you get bored

PS bigmouse
It will take a Flightmax 2800 or even one of the new HK multiorotor (green) 4000mah batteries

In that case you'll have to check out the RCG thread, there have been one or two other Zero owners there
Or stop being a git and give your son what he deserves, a nice full blown APM unit :)

He'll be doing flips in fast forward in no time

Yeah and don't fit the landing gear at first, it's not strong enough for novice landings

Thanks for pointing that out Tecnic! Didn't even know they existed!

Ben, I agree with Tecnic, save yourself farting around with some fc that has no instructions, setting up guide, user manual, wiring diagrams etc. and fit something that is open source and fully configurable, when/if the lad destroys the quad (they are fragile) you can refit the apm into a simple home-made quad, or commercial frame!

You can get an apm 2.6 now with gps, free shipping for £45, why bother with even the Cheerson apm which is £45 bare FC...
